New York City Steam Pipe Explosion
Video I shot with my digital camera of the steam pipe explosion
that
occurred on Wed. July 18th around 6:00pm at the intersection
of 41st
St. and Lexington Ave. in New York, NY. I was in my office
one block
away on the 27th floor when we heard the explosion and felt
the
continuous rumble. Looking out the window we saw hoards of
people
running and then the smoke coming from behind a building that
was
blocking our view of the intersection. I work in an
engineering firm
and several of the mechanical engineers assessed that it was
a steam
pipe immediately because of the smoke color and way it was
rising and
not spreading out as it would in a building collapse. Another
coworker
and I went down to the street level and up to the
intersection of 40th
St. and Lexington to get a closer look and assist anyone who
might need
help.
